Catherine Symon serves on the Board of Directors of In the Running. Catherine hails from Jamaica originally, but grew up "on the move" with her family living in Canada, the US, the Philippines and Hong Kong by the time she reached the 7th grade. Participating in team sports started out as a great way to make friends at each new school, but soon became a passion in the form of field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse. She first picked up an oar during freshman year while studying philosophy at Georgetown University and was immediately hooked. Catherine made her first US national rowing team a year after graduating and competed in two World Championships, the Pan American Games, and finally the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. She now lives in Manhattan, works as Director of Client Strategy at a startup marketing and advertising firm by day, and studies biotechnology at Columbia University by night.
