If it's a continent, and In the Running has found a cause, it must have a marathon. Erin successfully completed the Antarctica Marathon on March 5, 2008 . Her trip began in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where a few days of wine and tango erased her memory of the task at hand. From Buenos Aires, Erin flew to Ushuaia in Southern Patagonia, Argentina. Then she boarded a Russian ice-breaker for the most dangerous part of the trip, the journey across the Drake Passage to St. George's Island in Antarctica. March is Antarctica's summer, which means midnight sun and a balmy average temperature of zero degrees Celsius (before wind-chill). The marathon followed two loops of a 13.1 mile course, after which Erin promptly hobbled back to her refuge on the ice-breaker.
